Choice: an act of selecting or making a decision when faced with two or more possibilities. Synonyms: option, alternative, possible course of action.

I have a choice. Actually, I have many choices. I have the choice to wake up when my alarm goes off in the morning, or go back to sleep. I have the choice to drink tea or coffee. I have the choice to blast music on my way to school, or just drive in complete silence. I have the choice to start this blog with something happy, something frivolous and perhaps humours. I also have the choice to start this blog off with some of my deepest thoughts and concerns. I have the choice to do neither. I have the choice to stop writing, close my computer, and climb back into bed and never finish this sentence. I have the choice to not share my stories, my pain, my adventures, and my life with all of you. Or I can.

That’s the amazing thing about choices; I am the one making the decision.

However, choices aren’t always as simple as choosing coffee or tea in the morning or listening to music or sitting in silence. No, those are easy choices.

No one gets hurt.

No one gets heartbroken.

No one’s life gets completely desecrated.

I like these choices. If I had it my way, my life would be comprised of only simple choices, but that’s not how life works. Sometimes you have to choose between staying or leaving, loving or hating, speaking or remaining silent.  In these choices, people do get hurt, people do get heartbroken, and sometimes, people's lives get completely desecrated. The best and most detrimental decisions are never easy. They can either put everything together, or tear everything apart. Trust me, I know.

  This blog is my choice.

My choice to share my life with you.

My choice to tell you about my easy decisions and my hard ones.

My choice to bare my soul and live with the consequences.

My choice to tell my story and not let others tell it for me.

My choice to be unapologetically flawed.

My choice to be simply Nia.

I’ve made my choice. Thank you for joining me for this ride. I can’t wait to see where it takes us.

With love,

Nia
